On January 6th my aunt turned 103. Several decades ago, she took me aside at a family reunion to say, "Your uncle and I have known you were gay for many years. We want you to know we are so proud of you."
My aunt was a staunch Republican and regular church goer. That is until a few years ago when she no longer could stomach what the party had become.
